About Shawn Murphy
Shawn Murphy was born in Charlottetown on July 27, 1951. After attending local Charlottetown schools, Shawn attended both the University of Prince Edward Island and the University of New Brunswick, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from UNB in 1973, and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from UNB in 1976.
In June of 1976, Shawn joined the law firm of Scales, Ghiz, Jenkins and McQuaid, which later merged to form Stewart, McKelvey, Stirling and Scales. When he was elected in November of 2000, he was the senior partner in the Charlottetown office of that firm. Shawn was appointed Queen's Council in 1997, and is a past president of the Prince Edward Island Law Society.
In addition to his legal career, Shawn has been actively involved in a number of groups within the community. He was the secretary of the Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc.; is a former Board member of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, Director of the Murchison Foundation Inc., Chairman of PEI Capital Inc., and past President of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce.
