Johnston, Iowa —SHAZAM, Inc. has announced that all ATMs driven by the SHAZAM network are fully triple-DES compliant as of January 1, 2006. SHAZAM is one of the first major United States ATM processors to reach 100 percent triple-DES compliance on its ATM network. SHAZAM reports that MasterCard has recently completed its audit of the network and was very complimentary of SHAZAM's efforts and ability to meet the triple-DES compliance deadline. SHAZAM currently drives more than 5,200 ATMs.
SHAZAM and its financial institution participants invested considerable time and resources necessary to meet the triple-DES objective. SHAZAM alone invested more than 10,000 staff hours into testing and converting terminals. Meanwhile, each of SHAZAM's 1,641 community financial institution partners worked with their terminal vendors and SHAZAM's triple-DES team to accomplish this aggressive goal.
"While we knew the move to triple DES was going to require a large investment in time and resources, we also knew it would be essential to securing cardholder data in the future," said Mike Hollinger, SHAZAM President and CEO. "Our financial institution partners acted both responsibly and responsively by upgrading their terminals in a timely manner. We couldn't have done it without them."
