- Two fine streams of thick goo are forced out of small pores in the head of the silkworm and this shining ooze solidifies into silk. Silk makers take the finished cocoons, unwind them and then in a complex process they spin it into silk threads. A single cocoon can yield hundreds of feet of silk thread.
