SilverPlains.ca is a website about the transformation of a physical site: a prairie acreage located in the Red River Valley of southeastern Manitoba, Canada. The transformation is the removing of *introduced* vegetation and replanting of the site with flora native to this part of the world; primarily, but not exclusively, tallgrass prairie.
The website documents the transformation with text, photographs and drawings and presents research on what to plant including image and data pages on almost 200 species of flora native to the Great Plains of North America. As well we provide panoramic images -- of the view, the site, and (mostly agricultural) activities around the actual site -- and hundreds of photos of birds, insects, mammals & amphibians which visit Silver Plains.
The project -- actual and virtual -- is by visual artist Robert Mears with the assistance of Coleen Zebeluk.
