- Poor New Yorkers rarely get the help they need to escape poverty. For example, many do not know what public benefits—from tax refunds to health insurance for children—they're eligible to receive. Single Stop, initiated by the Robin Hood Foundation, is working to change that. Single Stop's aim is to prevent poverty by giving people the right advice about benefits, the right legal counsel and the right financial assistance. All of the advice and services are provided by expert counselors in one-on-one meetings at neighborhood locations. All communications are strictly confidential and the advice is free.
