- We fell in love with the remains of Osdale about three years ago. The first hurdle was to create a half mile track up to the cottage, then the fun began! The roof came off, all the slates were saved for reuse and the rafters were reused as the free standing kitchen units (made by an innovative craftsman at The Old Byre near Ardesier), the floor had to be romoved and underneath the old concrete we found an old silver fork, relicts of a bygone age. There were only two sash windoes in the original house with skylights, these were retained but recreated using hardwood frames and double glazing to keep out the extremes of weather. The original range was still in place, a little boiler on one side and an oven on the other, you could almost smell the peat smoke which must have wafted around most of the days, peat is still dug and stacked locally although we use wood for the stove as it seams easier to use for the inexperienced.
