Additional Information

Software-Supportability.org is probably the only site addressing specifically the issues relating software support and software supportability.

This site was born as an interim solution to support the work of the SAE G-11 Software Supportability Committee, which over a period of some 12 years generated 4 standards and information reports specific related to software supportability. (AIR 5121, JA1004, JA1005 and JA006 - all can be purchased from the SAE). The site was also used by the sister committee on Software Reliability, hence that it also addresses (though not in so much depth) software reliability issues.

At that time, the only standards that existed discussing software supportability were MIL-HDBK-347 (US DoD) and DEF STAN 00-60 Part 3(UK MoD). These were a step in the good direction, but still missed a lot of the problematics surrounding software support. The SAE G-11 Software Supportability Committee did an amazing job in establishing clear guidelines about how to address a software supportability program and, more important, established a clear concept of what software support actually is.

When the committee was dissolved, the former chairman decided to fund and maintain himself the site, and with the help of some former colleagues has been updating it regularly. As of today, it is a treasure trove of documents related to this very specialized field, probably saving any researcher hundreds of hours in finding key documents about software supportability. It will never top the popularity charts, but for any one that wishes to enter this "forgotten" software engineering discipline this site is certainly a must.
