Title

South Woodham Evangelical Church

Description

The church was originally established in 1931 during a period of development in the area that not only saw the building of many new houses and a school but also the Smallholder’s Hall, (now known as the Village Hall). From its early beginnings as the Assembly Mission Hall the church forged strong links with the F.E.B.V, (The Federation for Evangelising Britain’s Villages), giving South Woodham access to a full time worker. The giving of the new name, The South Woodham Evangelical Church, in the 1960’s and the construction of the new building in 1980 were key steps in the development of the church we know today however some traditions still remain such as the Sunday morning meeting in the Village Hall, although this has now become a necessity due to the number of church members and diversity of youth work including the Girls’ Brigade and, Boys’ Brigade. This year hopes to see further development with an extension to the building allowing us to be more effective in the community

Trying to be a nice person or simply going to church doesn’t make you a Christian. Jesus said that His followers are people who have a personal relationship with Him. It’s knowing Him and not just knowing about Him that counts. In the Bible we have to face claims that Jesus made about Himself, including that He is the Son Of God with authority over each one of us, and carefully consider how we are going to respond.

Many people feel that something is missing in their lives, a restless feeling inside and, try as they might, they haven’t found what they’re looking for. Jesus teaches that real satisfaction comes from putting Him at the centre of our lives. The sin that separates us from God can be removed when we accept that Jesus came to reconcile us to God through His death on the cross.
