Description
Pardon my enthusiasm. I love Springfield. I grew up, bought a house, married, started a business, and am raising children in Springfield. Springfieldmass.com is kind of the expression of my love for the city. If this is overly sappy please refer to the first sentence of this paragraph then move on to the Nuts and Bolts section. Every great American city should have a web directory dedicated to all that the city offers. This site is intended to provide quick and easy access to everything a visitor of Springfield should know about. I heard former Mayor William Sullivan say ‘every citizen should be an ambassador for Springfield’ (I paraphrase). This is my best shot.
Our database is starting small. It’s been my intention to begin by focusing on downtown Springfield, spread out through the city, and then the surrounding area. Hopefully this initial focus will allow me to do more things at once and will help reduce future growing pains. Upcoming (planned) enhancements include GPS coordinates and mapping as well as trip planners. Every change is intended to lead to a better Website.
On the information super-highway Springfield’s off ramp had no exit number. Before Springfieldmass.com there were no locally managed Websites with the sole purpose of providing visitor information. Some sites contained information that was hard to find, others had stale or incomplete data, and all of them were doing ten things at once. How were prospective guests of the city supposed to know what there was to do here? I had to do something and this is it. It will evolve, as it needs to, and will hopefully put Springfield’s best face forward.
