Description
To prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and to prevent incidents of violence among youth in the West Fargo schools by coordinating prevention services in the community with education efforts in the schools
This is a 16-session program designed to help pre-adolescents learn facts and skills to help them stay free of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and violence. The sessions are taught by specially trained officers from the West Fargo Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff's Department (for Horace and Harwood Elementary schools). Lifeskills is a three-year curriculum to teach students skills for decision-making, problem-solving, peer interaction and resistance to tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. It is taught by school counselors and classroom teachers in 6th grade, in the Family and Consumer Sciences classes in 7th grade, and in 8th grade Physical Education classes.
