South Shields Volunteer Lifeguard Club
Description
The club runs courses for it's members and also some public training schemes, it is also responsible for the training of all South Tyneside Council lifeguards; and has also done the initial training for Hartlepool Council Beach lifeguards.
During the summer months we provide a voluntary lifeguard service to South Shields Covering the whole of Sandhaven Beach from the Pier to Trow Rocks. Our beach base is Mowbray Lifeguard Station which we use a patrol base and a centre for training. Mowbray is a purpose built lifeguard station with observation tower which allows us to view the entire beach, the station also has full changing and showering facilities, boat house and first aid room.
The club offers courses in lifesaving and lifeguarding. The age range the club caters for is 4-13 years in the junior Section, 14 years plus in the Senior Section. The club is now in its 43rd year and still going strong with a progression of members some of which are the grandchildren of the original members.
