- We used to be able to visit Meigs Field on the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago for a great view of the city. Unfortunately, Mayor Daley executed a terrorist attack on it back in 2003 by destroying the runways in the middle of the night with no warning. As a result, Meigs is currently not an option for a fly-in destination. ( http://friendsofmeigs.org/html/Misc/Cartoons.html ) Besides the great view we had from Meigs Field, you were only a short walk from the Adler Planetarium , Shedd Aquarium and the Chicago Field Museum. All three of these museums are worth the time to visit, but not in one day! There's just too much to see! Speaking of the Shedd Aquarium, you can catch a round trip water taxi there that will take you to Navy Pier for about $10 round trip. There, you will find enough food and activities to keep you busy all day. While there, sign up for a ride on The Windy. It's a 4 masted sailing schooner that will take you out for about an hour and a half to view the city under sail power. Lots of fun!
