Broken Spokes Western Gifts & Mfg.

Description

For all you new visitors let me introduce myself. I'm Pard and this here is my outfit. A few years ago I started Broken Spokes. I'm located in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Right down on the Pecos River. Thats in the southeast corner of the state if yer wonderin. I was born in Huron, South Dakota. My family moved here when I was 2 so I call it home. I moved to Nebraska when I got married and was into farming and ranching. When that fell apart I moved to Wyoming and married a Laramie boy. Lived just north of Cheyenne in a little place called Hawk Springs. I heard its called "The Gossip Capitol of the World." I wouldn't know, it was just somethin I heard. Tho I think thats one rumor you can believe. While there I worked in a "LOVELY" little place called the Longbranch Saloon as the head bartender. The only thriving business in the town, population 60. It was a fun place to live and work. It was interesting especially in August when the bikers started their run to Stugis, South Dakota for their annual bike run. Made alot of good friends and thats where I met my husband. Its hard livin in a town that size. You can't have company without somebody talkin. Let someone see out of town plates and people are showin up with food for the funeral. But it was time to move on. So we came back home.

Now I'm here in Carlsbad. Workin the night shift at a local convenience store. I hated it, my husband hated it. After all we were still newly weds at the time. We decide it was time for a career change. Now what to do? I thought about my qualifications. I worked in my folks feeds store here back in high school. Worked in a potash mine, did construction work. Can drive a tractor, windrower, stacker, drive a truck, pull a windmills, ride a horse, work cattle, fix a fence, and various other ag related tasks. A pretty impressive resume. If I were a guy. I worked for several farmers and ranchers in Nebraska and Wyoming. But back here you just can't hardly get your foot in the door. I took crafts, art, ag and shop in high school. Went to Carlsbad High School. GO CAVEMEN! Was active in 4-H and FFA. Doesn't do much for ya in the way of a career. Even tho I've spent my whole life in agriculture. Tho I had A's in those classes.

So I combined what I learned in those classes and Broken Spokes was born. I started by hittin the local craft shows. Talk about stickin out like sore thumb. There definitely is a difference between country and western when it comes to craft shows. I did get a few places to carry my work. Which was the encouragment I needed to keep me going. I have also built the trophies for the past 3 years for CD-104. This will be my 3rd year. Our local radio station which hosts the annual Casi sanctioned chili cook-off. For more information you can contact Jerry Florez at info@CD104.com . Be sure to tell him Broken Spokes sent ya.
