Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer in men in the United States. It is the leading cancer diagnosis among US males. Indeed, about 16% of American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer sometime in their life. Since the early 1990’s, advances in both the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer have resulted in the disease being treated earlier, more effectively, and with fewer side effects. Prostate cancer can be commonly misspelled as prostrate cancer.

Enlarged Prostate

Enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a noncancerous condition that is extremely common in men. In fact, men can start to have microscopic findings of prostate enlargement in their 30’s. Many men aged 50 and older suffer from symptoms related to enlarged prostate. Commonly, this condition is misspelled as enlarged prostrate.

DaVinci Robotic Prostatecomy

The daVinci Robotic Prostatectomy represents the next revolution in surgery for prostate cancer. Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, it allows the surgeon to remove the prostate using small incisions instead of the traditional large incision. For the patient, this typically means less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, less pain, and a quicker return to normal activities after the procedure.

Endowrist technology Allowing the surgeon to perform motions that the human hand cannot possibly perform, the daVinci system gives the surgeon the ability to perform extraordinary tasks. It provides for greater surgical precision, increased range of motion and improved dexterity. This translates into a more precise surgery for the patient.

GreenLight Laser Treatment

Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate (PVP) using the GreenLight laser is a revolutionary technique for treating enlarged prostate. The GreenLight laser system uses a high power KTP, or “green” light source. It enables the surgeon to vaporize the obstructing prostate tissue in a nearly bloodless fashion.

The GreenLight Laser system uses pulsing technology called Star Pulse ™ to create high energy pulses of 532 nanometer (“green”) light. The green light is absorbed into the prostate tissue, resulting in quick vaporization of the prostate tissue. Thus, the surgeon is able to completely remove all of the obstructive tissue in a near-bloodless field.

For the patient, this means shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, and shorter catheter time compared with traditional transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). In fact, most patients will go home the same day of the procedure. Studies have demonstrated that following the procedure, patients will typically have excellent urine flow improvement and rapid symptom relief.
