Steven Law, OR STEVEN ANDERSON LAW, ARE Pen nameS for Steven Anderson , under which he writes fiction and has written a weekly newspaper column, "Suburban Cowboy." He chose the pseudonyms in honor of his grandmother, Dorothy Law Crawford, who died when he was in high school. As a young boy, his grandmother instilled in him the importance of education and the written word, and often read to him to build an interest in literature. Some of his favorite stories were The Boxcar Children, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Tom Sawyer, and the Little House on the Prairie series.

Steven's childhood years on a cattle ranch created a lifelong interest in the American West, and by his early teens he was an avid Louis L'Amour fan. His reading preferences soon ranged from John Jake's Kent Family Chronicles to Mario Puzo's The Godfather. By high school he found a niche as a writer/photographer for his school newspaper and yearbook, but he felt it was too much fun to be a career. It wasn't until his last semester at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration, that he realized he wanted to be a writer. He began networking with other Kansas City area writers and within a year had written a novel, a thriller, which he threw away and vowed never to write another.
