On May 1st , Lake trout season opens, and all the focus switches to Grindstone City , at the tip of Michigan’s thumb. A world class Lake Trout fishery has developed in recent years where outstanding trout fishing is enhanced by a few Chinook salmon, Brown trout and Coho. The calm winds and hot days of June and July continue to be phenomenal for Lake Trout, with a mixture of giant Walleye, Chinook, acrobatic Steelhead, and Whitefish.
August is Salmon madness month. Grindstone City still produces unbelievable trout fishing, but the long battles with big salmon are best experienced in the far reaches of northern Lake Huron, and central Lake Michigan. Frankfort has consistently been the shining star of the Lake Michigan salmon fishery in August and September, with excellent catches of adult Chinook and Coho salmon.
In northern Lake Huron, there is no better place to fish than Drummond Island. Enjoy a truly unique offshore great lakes experience by fishing aboard Stormy Chinook at some rarely fished mid-lake shoals that Capt. Dan has experimented with and mastered. The tricky currents and steep drop-offs often result in lots of fish, especially with new tactics
