Welcome to the new and improved StudentDO.com, the official national website of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA). SOMA was founded in 1970 as a nonprofit association with the objectives of improving the quality of healthcare delivery, espousing the ideals of osteopathic medicine, and giving Osteopathic Medical students a united voice in matters influencing issues of medical education and healthcare policy and delivery.
SOMA is recognized by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as the national professional society for osteopathic medical students. With over 7500 members, SOMA is the largest osteopathic medical student organization in the world. In addition to providing valuable programs, benefits, and community service opportunities, membership in SOMA offers students a legitimate voice in shaping the future of their chosen profession. Additionally, it serves as a means of communication and collaboration among the students of all 28 colleges of osteopathic medicine. All students of osteopathic medicine are eligible for membership in SOMA.
SOMA also has and undergraduate branch called Pre-SOMA for college students who are aspiring to become Osteopathic Physicians. If your undergraduate institution does not already have an active Pre-SOMA chapter and you are interested is chartering one, please contact the National Pre-SOMA Director at
