edit Connecting an existing account to an OpenID
You can connect an existing account to an OpenID using Special:OpenIDConvert. It's probably a good idea to put this in the documentation, like in MediaWiki:Openidlogininstructions. --Evan 10:58, 10 April 2007 (PDT)
- Evan, thanks for the note. I'm letting Brandon CS Sanders and the rest of the dev team know about this, as I know they were looking into how to do this. --

edit Not obvious how to add subdomains
The find box and bot don't make it obvious how to add a page for a subdomain. For instance, because Debian.org exists, looking for Planet.debian.org takes me there. Because PDX.edu exists, Psas.pdx.edu takes me there.
- If you think this link would be better somewhere - please add it! :-) AddSubdomain. Best, MarkDilley

edit Stop posting email addresses.
We all have enough trouble with the damn spammers as it is. If someone wants to contact me, they can go to my site and push the "email" button.
- We post them in a graphic form, so they are not able to be harvested by a spam bot. Certainly someone could collect them by hand, and that is the same as the whois posting of them. MarkDilley
- I would also like to point out that to transform the email to a graphic, type < graphic>
</graphic> MiCCAS 23:22, 30 April 2007 (PDT)
- Or
will do the same thing. — Nathan (talk) / 06:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
edit Mini Site Map
I was working on a page (STVAction.org.uk) and decided to add a Mini Site Map. I have set up a draft template for others to use if they wish though I am sure it can be improved.
If people think this is a good idea please help improve the template. I assume it would be possible for the BOT to generate a mini site map from pages linked to frequently on the site and pages with titles such as home, index, faq, contact, about etc.

edit International Country Codes
International Country Codes are used as categories at YelloWikis.org. Can I suggest that such a categorisation might be useful here.
It might be possible to use the domain name extension of a site to categorise it e.g. "thisisanexample.co.uk" :
- category:GB (international country codes for uk)
- category:com (for commerce)
- category:.co.uk (to categorise by domain extension)
Links:
I would find it useful to be able to search all the ".gov.uk" sites for example.
Let me know what you think.

edit Update
For now I will just add {{.extension.country}} and an equivalent category to pages and see how that works. John Cross 13:35, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

edit How can I remove one item from Categories?
I tried all kind of access to edit or remove one subject from Categories list, but I have no clue! please Help! EdenRain
- All you need to do is edit the page, go to the bottom of the page and remove the category there. You'll see something like: [[Category:Whatever]]. Remove whichever one you need to then click Save Page. If you have any other questions (or if this isn't clear enough), please let us know. — Nathan (talk) / 21:35, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

edit Problem with thumbnail update?
Is there a problem with thumbnail update at domaintools? When you click "Que thumbnail for update" the text changes to "Thumbnail qued for update" but nothing happens. I have qued mine for update something like three days ago, but it still the same, from 2004, and the site has changed a lot since then.
- The thumnbnail update does not happen immediately. It could take a while. This help file from DomainTools should help a little. If you need further help, please comment back. — Nathan (talk) / 15:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
This help file says that the update should happen in less than an hour, although it could take longer. As I said, I have queued mine a few days ago, and I think that I have tried again even earlier, perhaps a few months back, but the thumbnail still shows my site as it was in 2004. Perhaps you should check to make sure the feature works.
- Hi, I just saw that feature work yesterday.. so give it some time, maybe a day? Let us know what happens. Best, MarkDilley
- You may also wish to read this; it has information that's most relevant. — Nathan (talk) / 21:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, today is May 9, and the thumbnail is still the same (a correction though, it's not from 2004, it's from 2006). That's two days. As I said, I am almost certain that I had also tried to update it a few months back, and it didn't work, but anyway, if you say that the feature works but it just takes more time, I'll wait.
May 11, thumbnail not updated yet 4 days after I queued it. (I'll be updating this from time to time.)
May 13, and the thumbnail remains the same. There must be a problem. Could you look into it please? My site is here.
May 19, the thumbnail is still the same. Anybody?
May 21, thumbnail the same. Nathan?
edit Buy this domain
I find it BOTH misleading and slimey to allow NetworkSolutions.com to run a link on nearly every domain you list offering to "Buy this Domain". NONE of our domains are currently listed for sale - this link is misleading and deceptive for the average web user. This nonesense should NOT be allowed on your site. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.213.243.224 (talk • contribs) .
- Maybe it would be better to say, Make an offer on this domamin. I don't personally understand why it is so upsetting, as the person who owns the domain, you would have final say about whether or not you would want to take the offer. Can you explain to me more why it upsetts you? MarkDilley
Because it gives the impression that the domain is for the sale. (I am not the original poster, I am just answering the question.)

Dear friends,
We are listening to and looking at the program of Bayless Conley for several years. Every week we look forward to Sunday-morning 8.30 a.m. We are blessed and build up by his message. But.....some time ago you have placed an enormous monitor on the platform with wild rolling, blue clouds (?) Why.....? Does such a talented preacher need such a digital unrest? We experience it as very disturbing and annoying and it leads away from the preachrer and the message. Is that really necessarily? Please, will you put away that monitor from the platform? We love you all and feel connected with the Cottonwood congregation! May God bless you abundantly! Diny and Aad Snijders Holland
edit How about an automatic interwiki map?
I think it would be cool -- and it would help people spruce up their pages -- if you automagically generated interwiki map entries for any sites you discover are wikis.
Barring that, would you be willing to add EcoReality and Veggie Van Gogh to your intermap? They are both in MediaWiki's intermap, but apparently don't get distributed with the MW distros.
Thanks

edit Please remove my info from your site
I wrote you several days ago asking for you to do something about this. You have mixed my domain with another company. I do not want to continue monitoring your site, so please remove my info completely and permanantely.
If I have to put more energy into this to get you to take action it will be in the form of a lawsuit or slamming you in any way I can find.
Why do I have to get ugly to get you to respond???

- Please let us know what you'd like fixed. Of course you can also do it yourself and we'd be more than happy to help. You can leave a message here, by e-mail or in our IRC chat room. I just looked at PrecisionPour.com and it does seem to redirect to another site. But if you own the domain then I'd guess that's what you want it to do?

- Hi Ernie, we agree!! Although these folks are not our clients, we do hope by letting everyone fix the information, that we will building a more accurate place for contact information. !!!
I'd like to see an option on each domain page whereby owners can:
- opt to re-send the bot to their sites immediately to extract it's most recent information;
- define the max amount of text (perhaps in character count) to extract, and followed by a "read more" link;
- specify an updates interval/frequency to tell the bot how often the site is updated.
With blogs, news sites, etc., these get updated frequently. I think the above would allow AboutUS to have the most up-to-date information possible if the bot could re-visit any site that chooses to allow it. --Robert | talk
- Great ideas, on the last item, the bot generally only hits a page once because the idea is just to get the article started. --User:Ray King | talk 01:45, 31 August 2006 (PDT)
- Well, how do you distinguish between domain owner and fake domain owner? The problem here is, there is no way to safely distinguish and I would be majorly p***ed if someone came along and did that for the pages describing my domains. --Assarbad 01:22, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
For some reason subdomains don't work. It would be nice if they were. (220.233.87.9, aka ajdlinux)

Change the main page's meta tag to be "AboutUs Domain Directory" instead of "Main Page - About Us" so that's what shows up when anyone adds this to their Favorites.
I like the idea, maybe this works - DomainDirectory or Domain Directory - but maybe AboutUs Domain Directory is too long. MarkDilley
edit Refresh thumbnail
Although it looks like you take the thumbnails from a third party, there should be some way to refresh the thumbnails or at least ask for such a refresh to be scheduled. One of my domains has this problems as it was not yet configured, but a thumbnail was already taken. Thanks. --Assarbad 01:22, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
edit Declare owner
One really nice feature would be to link a wiki account to domain pages. This way you spare the concern I raised above (about re-sending the bot), since it is sure the owner does a certain action.
I do not know how this could be achieved best, but there should be some way of identifying a user. An idea for that could be that the respective user requests "ownership" via a button on the respective domain page. One of the editors comes along and sends a message with an activation key to the email address given as ADMIN-C (or whatever else is being decided). Once received, the user will have to enter that key on one of his personal pages and he now owns the page.
Yes, it would be a little risk if someone hacks the mail server, but that's the only one I can see.
Note: The request for ownership must be linked to the wiki user account (although the email addresses need not to match). The request must be valid only for a certain decent period. The request must be linked to the respective domain page as well so that no two activation requests can ever interfere.--Assarbad 01:32, 1 September 2006 (PDT)
Please place concerns here.
