TEECH - Telecoms Eastern European Challenge edit

TEECH is a UK registered charity since 1999 which takes on projects, raises funds and then delivers aid to some of the poorest parts of Eastern Europe. TEECH stands for Telecom's Eastern European Challenge. To date, TEECH has already completed projects in 4 hospitals, 4 special needs schools including an orphanage and a retirement home, all in Eastern Europe. For 2009, from August 16th - August 29th, TEECH is undertaking projects benefiting special needs schools and orphanges in the Comanesti region, Romania.

In 2010 TEECH are going to Falesti, Moldova to help repair a orphange and provide much needed aid drops in the area. Joining TEECH is easy and you can spend as much time as you want helping the charity. Donating is easy too via credit card @ www.justgiving.com/chriscraddock2010

The History of TEECH edit

TEECH was established in 1998 when a group of people who worked together at BT took up the challenge from a work colleague to help repair two hospitals in Bucharest. About 50 volunteers under the banner of BTL Aid travelled to Romania for a two week period in August and set about painting, plastering, lighting and generally making the two hospitals a cleaner, safer and brighter place. Flushed with the success of this trip but seeing the need to be more structured, these volunteers organised themselves into a proper registered charity and hence TEECH was born. While it still retains the "telecom" name connection, because many of their members are telecom engineers or have been working with BT, TEECH is an independent, non-BT organisation, that welcomes volunteers "not afraid of some hard work".

Projects completed by TEECH edit

One cannot but be impressed by the organization’s accomplishments, often under challenging conditions – such as temperatures of 40c +, and poor sanitary facilities. One project example is a maternity ward where in two weeks 33 volunteers achieved: a major uplift to the patients shower area; new toilets and basins; a staff washroom; redecoration of 9 rooms, ward corridor and kitchen; a complete kitchen refit; repairs to windows, doors and replacement of hospital entrance frame; major rewiring and plumbing improvements; and delivery of donated equipment including an incubator, basinets, hospital beds, video monitors and much more.

The TEECH Projects area presents a written and photographic record of both project fund raising and implementation activities, by year. One sees the extent of the work involved, and is moved by the good-natured enthusiasm, creativity, resourcefulness and elbow grease members and their supporters bring to it. Following is a list of the projects that have been completed so far by TEECH's volunteers. To find out more details about these projects, visit TEECH.org.

About the Website edit

The TEECH website, informal while to the point, reflects the grassroots, efficiently focused nature of this charity. The straightforward site, easy on the eyes, conveys a refreshing modesty and sincerity. Easily navigated, the site is divided into Main Menu and Projects area. An additional Latest News area features items extracted from the two main areas.

Communication and Networking edit

TEECH recognizes the critical importance of facilitating communications and networking to ensure its success as a charity of unpaid volunteers. This is reflected from the members section as well as a mechanism for reading as well as forwarding relevant writings and photos to friends. A Blogger section links to presences on Facebook, Google's blogger.com, Yahoo and Flickr groups, Squidoo, MySpace, and the AboutUs wiki; that also help to promote awareness and garner support. Scroll down to find links to TEECH's pages on other social networking sites.

Thank You Section edit

Another section on the website illustrates how TEECH has been able to inspire contributions from a variety of sources - including 3 schools, a hospital, a church, a resort; as well as photographic, party planning & supplies, communications, advertising gift, coach, haulage, webhosting, and many other firms. The purpose of this page is to thank all the companies and people who have contributed to this cause.

How you can Help? edit

People helping people, because there is the need – including the need to work together in service to fellow human beings. That, clearly, is what TEECH is all about. If you are living in the Suffolk/Norfolk area of the U.K., and are able to volunteer time, effort, goods and services – this is a charity whose efforts are well worth the participation. Those elsewhere, interested in offering working skills and project supplies, are encouraged to contact TEECH as well. Should financial assistance be the way that you can contribute, there are a number of ways to make donations. You can use TEECH JustGiving Donation Page or simply call them up using the contact information below.
