The Tamil Sangam of Greater Rochester was started by an enthusiastic group of Tamil loving folks in 1994. The first year had around 30 members and the office bearers were Dr. Raman (President), Dr. Ramanan (Vice-President), Dr. Kumar (Secretary), Mr. Rajeswaran (Treasurer). Over the years the Sangam has grown and shrunk (in terms of members) but all along has been able to keep its core objective of celebrating and fostering cultural aspects that are distinctly Tamil.
