The legend of Crazy Bird started on a fine spring day in 1999 while Big Bird and Gooney Bird were preparing for RAGBRAI XXVII. The deadline for registering was looming, and the post office was closing in 10 minutes. As they sipped a pint of some of Portland's finest microbrew, a huge cloud of swallows swooped into the cherry orchard across the street. As Gooney exclaimed "Look at those Crazy Birds," the legend was born.
