Description

Excerpted from the website:

A chance encounter two summers ago ultimately united a small-town girl from Washington, Kansas and a big-city boy from Scottsdale, Arizona. Mark and I both attended school at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, though we didn't meet until the summer of 2005. Mark was finishing college by taking a few summer courses, and I was also there, working part-time and experiencing my first summer away from home... and we were both trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our lives. We met one night at TP's, a local bar in town. I'm typically a very reserved individual, but something told me that night that I had to go talk to this boy. I approached him and was immediately put at ease as we easily spent an entire night filled with conversation and laughter. The excitement of that night advanced into the following day, the rest of the week, the next week, and ultimately the entire summer. We spent every waking moment together, and it didn't take us long to realize that something special was beginning to develop. Our committment to one another was tested as the summer ended and Mark returned to Arizona as he had planned to do before we met. We said our tearful good-byes and promised one another that we'd remain faithful and committed to each other. Our love was forced to grow through letters and phone calls, but despite the odds against us, our relationship continued to blossom and grow stronger than ever as we poured our hearts out to each other night after night on the telephone. It soon became apparent that every mile that separated us only brought us that much closer to each other's hearts. That time was such a test to a budding relationship, and we both truly feel that those seemingly endless months we spent apart have only made us really treasure and appreciate the time we now get to spend together. Much to my heart's delight, Mark got a job in the Kansas City area in January of last year and has been living there since. Throughout the remainder of my undergraduate course work we commuted to see one another on the weekends. Every visit Mark was able to make to Kirksville to see me was special, but there was one such occassion that I will always cherish. He came to visit me last summer on my birthday. I turned 22 on the 22nd of June, which is apparently a "golden birthday"...Mine proved to be exactly that. Mark treated me to dinner at a restaurant in Kirksville that overlooks Thousand Hills Lake. After dinner he took me on a walk to one of the most scenic areas of Thousand Hills. We sat and enjoyed the beautiful summer sky that was revealed following the day's rain shower as we had a champagne "toast to my birthday." Mark unfolded a sheet of paper and told me that he had written me something that he wanted to share with me. He began to read what was probably one of the most beautiful and heartfelt letters ever written. When he finished (and as I was trying to dry my tears and salvage what was left of my make-up), he told me that he had a confession to make. He informed me that he had lied about my birthday present (that it really wasn't scheduled to arrive tomorrow). He dropped to one knee and pulled out the most beautiful ring...and best birthday present ever. He then asked me if I would do him the great honor of becoming his wife. After my initial shock wore off and after a second concerned prompt from him, I said, "yes."
