TextBook International - TextBook International

Description edit

TextBook International:About

The TextBook project was spearheaded for two reasons: the lack of official user documentation available for Textpattern, and the repeated complaints from the community about there not being any. Certainly the effort to create information about using Textpattern was already available in some forms; there is the built-in help in the Textpattern install itself, there are community tutorials posted around the world on personal Weblogs (recently roped together in the Textpattern Resources site), and for better or worse there is the Textpattern Support Forum. However, what there was not was a single, consolidated body of literature, that attepted to walk a new user through an optimal flow of concepts that would quickly get them up to speed with running a fully functional Textpattern site. TextBook aims to be that body of literature.

The initial formation of TextBook was realized by the efforts of Destry, Remillard, Alicson, and the encouragement of Dean Allen himself. (See thread 5261 in the Textpattern Forum to follow the brainstorming initiative.) The survival of TextBook is largely due to the entire Textpattern community, and a growing list of contributors is making the TextBook effort successful. In late March 2005, a milestone was reached: Dean Allen recognized TextBook as "authoritative" body of literature for Textpattern (from 7347).

More recently, TextBook has become an international project with a growing list of language translators, and it will soon be reorganized for improved content fitness and usability. With the continuous progression of TextBook as a valuable information source for Textpattern, who can say what greater thing it will become.
