edit Description
The Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) bases its work on the standards established by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and other international human rights instruments. The Philippine government, being a signatory to these human rights laws, has the responsibility to adhere to and implement them.
During the term of President Fidel Ramos (1992-1998), the rise in demolitions, displacements and land conversion prompted TFDP to decide during its National Convention in September 1996 to formally expand its mission to include work on economic, social and cultural rights in the overall context of free-market globalization.
With this new arena of advocacy, TFDP is breaking new ground, especially with the dearth of work done by other human rights organizations and the United Nations in this field. TFDP is also implementing a new human rights project that includes a strong proactive approach for the development of community-based human rights work where the community takes on the primary task of defending and promoting their own human rights.
