To be honest, we were so impressed by our first visit to Koh Samui that afterwards we decided to set up an enterprise to encourage others to experience the unparalled joys of living on a semi-deserted tropical island.
- an exciting and genuine alternative to the heavily advertised package tours. We observed that nearly all tourists (mainly because they go on organised package holidays) tended to stay at the more expensive resorts, spas and hotel complexes. Again this is because the main-line tourist operators offer almost no other useful alternatives. Their way of doing business on the line of: fly-em-in, feed-em-up and fly-em-out sort!
And that's exactly the same tourist trap we fell into. And we can tell you from sheer experience that it worked out a very expensive (and boring) way for four people to spend a three-week holiday. Not only that, but we never really got to meet the local islanders unless they were in resort-issued uniforms. We have to admit, these up-beat resorts look spectacular in glossy magazines, but frankly after about two days we got bored out of our minds. It was the same this, same that, same pool, same bars, same restaurants, same rules and of course the same faces. Ughhh.
