Description
Those with an interest in Thailand will find plenty to read here, and you are invited to browse through the categories and read to your heart's content. The site consists of 1000+ fiction and non-fiction stories, articles and poems - written by over 80 writers - as of November 14th, 2007 and new content is added almost daily.
History
Around Christmas 2005 one of the owners of ThailandStories had an idea that would allow writers to share in the advertising proceeds on a content site, this in sharp contrast to many other sites where only the site owners make money on the submitted content. He contacted a writer friend who was immediately enthusiastic. Together they fleshed out the idea, found a script to handle the story submissions, tweaked it a little to add in some additional functionality that was required and started adding content.
During the first 2 months they contacted several friends who contributed to the site with their stories. The site was officially opened on February 5th, 2006 and contained ~125 stories and articles at that time from some 15 writers. By May 5th of that same year the amount of stories had doubled to 250 and - due to a serious influx of new authors with a lot of content - by December 12th it had done so again; well before the first anniversary of the site.
During 2006 new functionality was introduced periodically to provide an even better reading and posting experience, the latest of which has been a monthly newsletter. The first newsletter was sent out on October 13th, 2006.
In February 2007 a category for book reviews was added, containing reviews of such varied books as 'Emmanuelle' by Emmanuelle Arsan, 'Possibility of an Island', by Michel Houellebecq and 'The Sayings of Buddha'.
This was followed in August 2007 with a book preview category allowing published authors to post the first chapter of their books, giving readers a chance to sample the work and authors the chance to showcase their writing. As of December 2007 novels from published authors Sean Bunzik, Dean Barrett, Jason Schoonover, S. Tsow, C. Woww, Olin Powers, and Dominic Lavin have submitted the first chapters of their works for preview.
Less than a year after reaching 500 stories, the 1,000 story mark was reached at the end of November 2007 with nearly 2,000 comments on the stories.
