Title

The Crew's Nest - North Captiva Island Beach House. Luxury Family Beach Vacation Rental Home Sanibel Captiva Island Ft. Myers Beach Area.

Description

This secluded tropical island paradise off the coast of Ft. Myers beach is just north of Sanibel and Captiva Island. North Captiva Island, a mere four miles long and ½ mile wide, was separated from Captiva by the Great Hurricane of 1921. North Captiva Island provides a glimpse into Southwest Florida's simpler past. Unlike Sanibel and Captiva, which are attached to the mainland by a causeway, this small island is only accessible by boat or small airplane. Daily water taxis and tour boats are available. Once you're there, transportation on the island's sandy paths is by golf cart, bicycle, or on foot. Family beach vacation, Florida beach vacation

The speed limit averages 5 mph and sunset, the hottest show in town, is performed once daily. This unhurried pace and relative isolation are what keep the atmosphere distinctly low-key. Two-thirds of North Captiva Island is a protected wilderness park where you will see an abundance of tropical birds and animals. Dolphins often play offshore, manatees and otters near the mangroves; tortoises frequently transverse the sandy paths, and many varieties of birds make this barrier island their home.

North Captiva Island is home to miles of unspoiled, pristine white sugary-sand beaches, similar to the Caribbean, and its beaches are known for the best shelling in North America. Bounteous tropical foliage surrounds the private homes (there are no hotels here) and adds to the far-away feel of the island. The beach is a very short walk or golf cart ride away. A paperback novel and a beach chair may be all the entertainment that you need, but the island offers many other pleasures as well.
