The Circle
The Circle Newspaper, established in 1980, is a monthly publication serving Native Americans within three main geographic areas—the Twin Cities metropolitan area, greater Minnesota, and tribal land (reservations.)
Mission: The Circle is dedicated to presenting news from a Native American perspective, while granting an equal opportunity to community voices.
The purpose of The Circle is to present a range of news, opinions, editorials, and issues that cover and reflect the issues and culture of the American Indian community. Through our unique cultural and historical perspective we offer a platform, and provide a voice, for Native people which informs, educates, entertains, and unifies Native and Non-Native people. We seek to improve the quality of Native American media and empower Native journalists.
Publishing for over 27 years, The Circle continues to serve the Native and mainstream community by publishing articles, column, news and art by and about Native Americans. Our newspaper publishes 13,000 newspapers each month. On average, each issue is read by 3 people, meaning that we educate over 45,000 people per month about Native Americans. The Circle is the ONLY VOICE for all Native American communities in Minnesota, we are distributed to all the reservations in Minnesota, as well as having over 200 locations in the Twin Cities Metro area.
The Circle newspaper is a non-profit 501(c)3 and is classified by the IRS as an educational vehicle for the Native population (and our allies) in Minnesota. The Circle makes most of its revenue from advertising and is supplemented with Circle Designs studio (a graphic design service) and subscriptions.
