The Crucible’s Youth Workshops expose young people of diverse backgrounds to the arts and sciences through intensive workshops. We are dedicated to promoting healthy youth development practices and strengthening youth competencies in leadership, healthy social relationships, self awareness, community involvement, skill building. We provide both physically and emotionally safe high quality hands-on fine and industrial art making experiences. The Crucible actively encourages West Oakland residents and youth to get involved in our classes and events.
A huge success for the youth program has been the completion of the vegetable cart for City Slicker Farm. Youth from the West Oakland community, with the guidance of John McCormack, a Crucible woodworking instructor, designed and built a mobile vegetable stand for the local West Oakland farm. Throughout the construction process the youth who participated were involved in every step of the construction process, from drawing and layout to utilizing their newly acquired woodworking and welding skills.
Working in collaboration with the Bike Kitchen of San Francisco The Crucible will be offering Bike Fix-a-thon Weekends. These are repair and maintenance workshops free Free bike repairs to anyone under 18. This is an opportunity to learn more about how to fix and maintain their bicycles. Fix your flats, brakes, chains, shifters, and more! We may not be able to fix everything, but we’ll do our best, and show you how to repair your own bike too!
