The two words, books and readers are all The House of Books needs to define its goal: simply and clearly to produce books for a general, attentive reading public. The House of Books is an internationally oriented, general, commercial publishing house. It publishes successful fiction, non-fiction, children's and juvenile books. We are using a fresh approach to book design, setting a new trend in the market, both in the Netherlands and Flanders.
We are often asked about the story behind the name, The House of Books. We looked for a name that reflects our being internationally oriented. Moreover the name must make clear what, according to our view, a publishing house should be first and foremost: a house and home for its authors. Our house full of authors, illustrators and books wants to be a model for all those homes in the Netherlands and Flanders where there is room for and interest in 'books for readers'.
The array of authors and titles hosted by The House of Books is greatly varied. Stories based on real events, like that of Farah Diba. Biographies like those of Sting, Abba and Frank Sinatra. Literary novels by Anita Shreve, Carol Goodman, Tony Parsons and the Flemish author Diane Broeckhoven. Books by international bestseller writers like Cathy Kelly, Sophie Kinsella and Tim Griggs. Thrillers by Dennis Lehane, George Pelecanos, Clive Cussler and Andy McNab, to name just a few. Writers of Dutch origin like Janwillem van de Wetering (Grijpstra & De Gier) and Benny Baudewyns. Children's and juvenile books by bestseller writer Carry Slee (Van oma mag dat wel), Sabine de Vos and Augusta Verburg. Strong-selling series (the Hoera! Books) by Marianne Busser and Ron Schroder. Books on cookery, like the series of Basic Books. Non-fiction and intriguing documents of a period by well-known journalists such as Mick Boskamp.
