Description
Khukuri house is the manufacturer and distributor of the finest Khukuris(Kukris) in Nepal. Established by Mr. Lalit Kumar Lama, an ex-British Gurkha Warrant Officer, and is the only supplier of khukuris(kukris) to the British Gurkha Units, the Gurkha Contingent of Singapore Police, the Gurkha Reserve unit in Brunei and the Gurkha Museum in the UK. The House now sends it's knives (Khukuris) to number of shops and countless individuals all over the world as well in retaining it's products in Kathmandu.
Mr. Lama's life has been inextricably tied to the Khukuri(kukri) for over 33 years, 22 of which he served in the 10th PMO Gurkha Rifles of the Brigade of Gurkhas. He has virtually traveled the world with his Khukuri(kukri). Today, retired and living in Kathmandu, he runs the city's one and only finest Khukuri(kukri) manufacturing and distributing business.
Khukuri House has a number of factories in east Nepal where each and every one of it's knives are specially hand-crafted and designed. The making of a single Khukuri(kukri) keeps four men fully occupied for an entire day, sometimes even more. The best raw materials -hi carbon steel, brass, rose wood, buffalo hide and horn are first carefully selected and utilized. Then only the actual process of making the Khukuri(kukri) starts. Beating and shaping the steel to exact specifications; both measurements and weights, tempering, polishing and sharpening, shaping the sheath and encasing it with leather, carving the handle and finally putting everything together are both time and energy consuming. Everything is done by hand and the only machine used is a lathe for shining the Khukuri(kukri). The final product is then checked and rechecked many times over and then only packed to be transported to Kathmandu where Khukuri House has two showrooms.
