We are a UNION! A local of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association AFL-CIO (NATCA). NATCA is the exclusive representative of air traffic controllers across the nation and at the Chicago O'Hare Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON). We represent both member and non-member air traffic controllers in dealing with the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Defense, airlines, media, other aviation labor organizations and NATCA locals.
88 air traffic controllers employed at the Chicago O'Hare TRACON. We also strive to insure, enhance and promote the safety of air traffic movement within our air traffic control jurisdiction. This area encompasses more than six thousand four hundred square miles of airspace around the Chicago O'Hare International Airport. We are the IFR controlling authority for the airports underlying our airspace.
Within our area of jurisdiction are two of the world's busiest airports in both passages and operations. There are 68 airlines providing regularly scheduled service to the airports we control. Chicago O'Hare International is the second busiest airport in the world in both passengers (72,568,076) and operations (894,641)*. It is also the eleventh busiest airport for cargo handled (1,531,809 Metric Tons)*. Chicago Midway Airport has become the sixty-ninth busiest in the world for passenger with 13,573,665 and forty-fifth in the world for aircraft movements (302,035)*. About fifteen percent of all airline passengers travel through our airspace every day.
