In 1987 John sold his dental lab in Lynbrook, Long Island and took one year leave of absence. This allowed him to spend a lot of time riding Tug Hill. Laura joined her fiancee whenever possible.
One weekend Johnnyboy returned home and surprised everyone by announcing he had bought The John Barley Corn, their favorite stop on the trail. "Pack your bags!"
