"Doing the right thing is more important than doing the thing right", is another way of saying; "Effective is better than Efficient". This is not to say that we should try to be inefficient. Rather we need to focus on discovering the "right thing" for each business! Once we discover the "right thing" to do, then ways to be more efficient will be much more obvious.
We have seen many businesses being very efficient at doing all the wrong things! The right thing is not a moral or just judgment, it refers to the right (best) way to more profits, better products, and the best people.
It was inspired by the Riddle of the Sphinx. Legend has it that Oedipus was made King by solving the riddle! Often when we see the answer to a difficult riddle, we say "Of course! I should have seen that". Many times there is a simple answer to what seems to be a complex problem.
