- Topless Apparel started on a canvas. Founder Sean McGarry entered an art show in Buffalo, New York called Artists and Models. The theme of this show was conveniently fashioned toward the pleasures and dangers of nightfall. At this time his artistic style was flourishing and he created eight original paintings specifically for the show. But painting costs money. A lot of money. So, in order to recoup some of the costs from this event, he decided to sell t-shirts sporting images of his more vivid paintings. Topless Apparel was the name chosen to articulate an inherent sensuality coupled with a dash of silliness. These shirts sold fairly well and he began thinking about the t-shirt instead of the canvas as a vehicle for the art.
