Title

Topsider Prefabricated Post and Beam Homes and Free Online House Plans, alternatives to modular homes, log homes, cabins, dome homes and cedar home and home plans.

Description

The first Topsider Home was produced in an old warehouse and built on a mountainside near Boone, North Carolina. The ingenious pedestal design was conceived as a solution to expensive and unsightly foundations on severely sloping terrain. The octagonal shape and the extensive floor-to-ceiling glass permitted magnificent panoramic views from every room.

Early Topsider Homes were some of the very first kit homes in America. They included nearly everything for the do-it-yourselfer or small contractor-built getaway in the mountains. Those early era Topsider Homes featured a much more rustic look than today, with rough textured wood interior surfaces throughout. Only two model sizes were offered, both quite small by today's standards.

It was obvious from the beginning that Topsider Homes' pedestal design was also ideally suited for beach and coastal settings. As the company grew, in the 1970s it moved to new manufacturing facilities in Yadkinville, North Carolina, near Winston-Salem.
