The Track directory has been created by Trevor Cree who first visited New Zealand in 1974, has lived there on two separate occasions, and keeps returning to that unique and very special country. Although not a walker by nature he has completed a number of the major tracks including the Routeburn (4), Kepler (2), Abel Tasman, Stewart Island, Cascade Saddle and Tongariro Crossing.
By profession he is an agricultural engineering consultant who has worked in 25 countries worldwide over a period of 30 years. In November 2004 he was due to travel to Afghanistan to work for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) but three days before his departure three UN workers were kidnapped and threatened with execution. Since it was not viable to fulfill that assignment he instead travelled to New Zealand to finish the novel, Track, which he had commenced some five years before.
