Since its formation, Travelex has evolved from being an innovative bureau de change operator into a dynamic, pioneering and diversified worldwide money business. Its wide variety of consumer and business services, together with its rapid growth and unique entrepreneurial culture, have provided the platform for the emergence of Travelex today as the world-leading company in its field.
The Group is privately owned. Apax Partners owns 48%, Lloyd Dorfman is a 30% shareholder, 3i (one of Europe’s leading investment companies) is a 7% shareholder and Standard Chartered Bank owns 6%. The remaining shares are held by management. For the year ending 31/12/04 the Group’s turnover was £494m and its profit before taxation and amortisation of goodwill was £72m. Headquartered in London, the Group operates in 31 countries and employs over 6,200 people worldwide.
In each of the years from 2000 to 2004, Travelex was identified as one of the top forty fastest growing private companies in the UK, in the Sunday Times’ “Profit Track 100”. It is the only company listed to have maintained this position over five years.
