When I first heard about Memphis’ interim mayor fist-bumping the Dalai Lama, I have to admit that I was rather thankful that I’ve lived enough places that I could call someplace other than Memphis “my hometown”. The notion that someone from Memphis would think that greeting the Dalai Lama with a “Hello Dalai” and a fist-bump is appropriate is embarrassing enough to be believable.
