Located in Medford, a suburb of Boston, MA Tufts University was established in the year 1852 by Charles Tuft. A private university with an endowment of $1.2 billion, it is rated amongst the best universities of the United States. The university is widely popular for its international programs, academic excellence and producing leaders in various professions.

The university’s alumni contain many notable personalities including Jonathan Tisch, Chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels, Walter Wriston, retired Chairman and CEO of Citicorp/Citibank from 1967 to 1984. It also boasts off many actors, musicians, literary artists, scientists, athletes and academicians in its alumni.

Reputation

According to the 2007 rankings released by U.S News the university is ranked joint 27th in the country with University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and University of Southern California, Los Angeles for undergraduate programs. It is also ranked 7th in the country by Princeton Review’s 2007 Best 361 Colleges in terms of how happy students are with the university

Student Body

Number of undergraduate student enrollment is about 5,400. Number of graduate and post-graduate is about 4,070. The minority representation in the college is 0% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 13% Asian/Pacific Islander, 6% Black/Non-Hispanic and 7% Hispanic/Latino. The faculty strength is about 583.

For those who are interested in living on campus the university has a big campus residence hall to accommodate about 3,300students and also providing meal service with a choice of 20 meals per week. Types of residences include Men's residence halls, Coed residence halls, Institutional apartments, Sorority houses off campus, Women's residence halls, Fraternity houses off campus, International halls. The campus offers a vibrant environment that is full of activities which include Academic Clubs, Television Station, Theatre/Drama, Choir, Concert Band, Newspaper, Orchestra, Religious, Sports/Intramurals, Gay and Lesbian, International, Political Activist, Honors/Academic:, Jazz Band, Minority Cultural, Student Government, Marching Band, Phi Beta Kappa, Pre-Medical, Minority Student, Pre-Law, Radio Station, Environmental, Literary Magazine and Yearbook.

The university has a web based e-news service which brings the latest news around the world to the students and faculty of the university.

The university has a very attractive website with beautiful graphics. The homepage has links to ‘about’ the university, schools which takes the visitor to different schools of the university. ‘Academics’ gives the user information about various areas of study, studying abroad etc. Then there are links to research, admissions, student life, community, alumni, donating to the university on the top. The vertical bar on the left provides information about upcoming events, spotlight, careers and news. One can also search people using find people in the bottom of the page and also get maps and directions of the university. With all these important pieces of information available right on the homepage it makes the site very user friendly and easy to navigate. The website has a traffic rank of 11,931.
