- Tim Berners-Lee (http://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/) is credited with creating the World Wide Web in 1989. Berners-Lee probably had no idea that his creation was going to have as large affect as it has had on the world. Initially, the Internet and the World Wide Web were only available to large universities and research laboratories. They used this exciting new form of communication to share theorems, experiment outcomes and correlate their combined data. A few years later, the Internet, along with the World Wide Web was open to commercial and personal usage.
