Holding its first Regatta in 1837 and with a continuous history from 1879 the Tamar Yacht Club has facilities at the head of the Tamar River in Launceston and a marina and sailing facilities at Beauty Point. The club lays claim to be the oldest yacht club in Australia and carries its proud tradition to the present day.
The Tamar Yacht Club's charter exists primarily for the promotion and encouragement of yachting and the provision of facilities for its members. It is a family club, spouses and children are especially encouraged to articipate in club events and activities.
The club has grown to over 650 members with assets of around $1,000,000 and friendly full-time and part-time staff members. Improvements are continually being made to both the Clubhouse and Beauty Point Marina and the club prides itself on having excellent facilities with fees and subscriptions at competitive rates.
