Title

USA Montessori Online Learning

Description

Montessori Philosophy, MPY310, is a unique class that combines a review of one’s existing knowledge of the Montessori philosophy and combines it with an introspective look at themselves as an educator. Exceptional situations are discussed such as learning challenges, “gifted and talented” children, classifications of learning disorders and their origins, etc. In addition, MPY310 addresses how the Montessori prepared environment and spiritual preparation of the teacher can best be employed to take the quality of education in an elementary classroom to the next level. Many excerpts are reviewed from the course’s three texts, and Maria Montessori’s most controversial philosophies are discussed at large. MPY310 discusses the general population’s misconceptions of Montessori education, and begins to reveal the Hows and Whys of the philosophy started by an Italian doctorate student over 100 years ago, Maria Montessori.

The textbooks for MPY310 include Montessori Today by Paula Polk Lilliard, Children of the Universe by the Duffys and Look at the Child by Aline D. Wolf. Online links are also provided many weeks and include the Enneagram personality test, the science behind the Montessori methodology, and exploration of the Great Lessons on both a scientific level as well as a spiritual level.

MPY310 consists of three levels of participation on a weekly basis: 1) An online Literature Discussion, 2) A Personal Reflection, and 3) A Formal Assignment (reading and short essay). A time investment of 4-6 hours/weekly total has proven to be adequate time for most students to cover weekly course expectations. This term, we have added a Student Support Specialist to assist you with lessons and essays. Please locate her contact information under Faculty.
