Part of The University of Texas System, UT Southwestern Medical Center is governed by the UT Board of Regents. President Dr. Kern Wildenthal leads the medical center which includes three degree-granting institutions: UT Southwestern Medical School, UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and UT Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School. These three schools train more than 4,000 medical, graduate and allied health students, residents and postdoctoral fellows each year.

As one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation, UT Southwestern trains the physicians, medical scientists and allied health-care professionals of the future. Medical students learn to become highly skilled practitioners. Researchers are trained to lead the way in developing the latest in biomedical science. Students from our allied health programs go on to become integral members of our nation's health-care delivery and education system. With about 220 students admitted each year, admission to UT Southwestern is highly competitive.

A great medical center offers outstanding patient care in addition to fine teaching and innovative research. We emphasize compassionate medical treatment. UT Southwestern's physicians are equipped to bring the latest laboratory findings to each patient. We provide inpatient care to nearly 89,000 people and oversee approximately 2.1 million outpatient visits annually. Our physicians provide care to patients at UT Southwestern University Hospitals, Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children's Medical Center Dallas and the VA North Texas Health Care System, as well as the James W. Aston Ambulatory Care Center, the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, and other affiliated hospitals and clinics in North Texas.
