About UJ
Utlandsjuristen Malmström & Valdemarsson - "UJ" for short - was established in Gibraltar by Swedish economist Dr Bengt Valdemarsson in 1985. The firm's initial objective was to provide legal and financial services to the growing number of foreign nationals, particularly from Scandinavia, seeking to buy property in Spain.
Gibraltar offered a good geographical location at the entrance to the Mediterranean, a bilingual (English and Spanish) environment, as well as an attractive fiscal regime for offshore investors. As a British Crown colony since 1830, it also enjoyed stable government, a robust legal system and special status within the European Union. It was no coincidence that 1985 also saw the lifting by Spain of all restrictions on its border with Gibraltar.
Today UJ's core business is setting up and managing companies, trusts and other structures to meet the specific personal or business needs of our clients. Typically, these needs might include tax planning, wealth protection, foreign property ownership and facilitating cross-border business.
