PeaceWheel design 1.jpg

The Universal Peace Wheel is a cylindrical art form that visitors spin, sending billions of peace wishes into the world. The hand crafted copper embossed wheel is one of a kind, designed by Jim Mc Cain and made by Kopan monks. It features a universal design with symbols from the all the major world religions, alphabets, western history and Great Basin flora and wildlife.

We have collected 1000 handwritten peace statements collected by students and residents which will be placed inside the wheel, along with 1-billion traditional peace mantras.

The wheel is lit from within a gazebo-like shade structure and is viewable from the Women's Domestic Violence Shelter and the Nevada public offices where over 80 employees work with welfare, parole and mental health clients daily. The wheel and the Peace Park will be an inspiration to hundreds of people daily.

The Peace Park infrastructure will be completed this summer from funds raised by local, city, state and federal dollars. We have raised $18,000 to build the gazebo this June. We seek $14,000 to carve the wood blocks, hammer the cooper and construct the 6’ by 4’ wheel. 100% of the funds collected from this donation site support the artists and their materials.

The Peace Park is part of a conservation effort to protect the 8 mile creek and will feature other cultural elements. To include:

  • A Native American Medicine Wheel
  • 1000 Rocks: a wall displayed in geological time
  • A Labyrinth
  • Native Plant gardens
  • Electronic kiosk-connects information on parks & cultural objects across the globe
