Dear Brandon CS Sanders, as you are the chief architect of AboutUs, you and the friendly and constructive people here on the site might be interested in this idea, to strengthen the role of AboutUs as a global player. A bit about me

Hello, I'm a developer with AboutUs. I'm with Shelley Schoepflin Sanders :-) This PersonalPage describes who I am and what I'm up to. I'd love it if you'd help me make it better! Please feel warmly welcomed to jump right in and edit any part of this page. If you're feeling a little shy, don't worry :-) I'll consider your edits to be EfficientlyExpressedSuggestions.

More than you want to know about me

Some folks have asked me why I add my two middle initials when I sign my name. I do it to make it easy to tell me apart from the more famous folks that also have the name Brandon Sanders. My four names are a brief sketch of my family tree. The first three names come from the gals and the last name comes from the fellas:

Brandon - maternal Grandma born Evelina Brandon.
Clark - paternal Grandma born Delores Clark.
Schoepflin - wife born Shelley Schoepflin.
Sanders - dad born Robert Sanders.

I'm a technophile sprouting from working class roots. My dad is a journeyman model maker who runs 4B, a small Wire EDM shop. I inherit my creativity and passion for inventing from him. My mom is a journeyman die maker who nurtures our family and does the books for 4B. I inherit my attention to detail and passion for justice from her. Thanks mom and dad!

I'm proud of my family and the sacrifices they've made so that I could have more opportunities than they. I recognize that the many blessings in my life derive from the toil of ancestors driven to create a better world for their descendents. Out of gratitude for a bounty I have not earned, I've committed my life to perpetuating the chain of uplift. This is why I've joined AboutUs.

Jibing at the Event Site in Hood River. I fell 8 seconds later.
Jibing at the Event Site in Hood River. I fell 8 seconds later.
My self-education also includes a few credentials ... a BSE (June 1998) in Electrical Engineering from Walla Walla College and a PhD (August 1, 2005) in Computer Science from the University of Rochester. In addition to my job at AboutUs, I am involved in starting the SolSeedMovement and love to go windsurfing in the Columbia River Gorge with Shelley (yes she is better than me <sigh>).

I hope that in browsing my online spaces you'll discover some way in which we can exchange non-monetary value through collaboration.

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be well.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
May you be happy.

I use OpenID

I use OpenID to log into www.AboutUs.org and tons of other sites. With OpenID I only need to remember one username and password across all of my OpenID-enabled sites. I also don't have to give the password to any of the sites that I log into, only to my OpenID provider. It sounds like magic, and it kind of is :-) The folks at JanRain are excellent OpenID hackers and they'll give you a free OpenID and take care of hosting it for you. If you'd like to get started go get your own free OpenID at MyOpenID.com.

Bonus: My openid is brandoncssanders.myopenid.com but I figured out how to point brandon-cs-sanders.com at it so that I can use brandon-cs-sanders.com as my OpenID instead of brandoncssanders.myopenid.com (view page source on brandon-cs-sanders.com for the goodness).

"Almost-top-level" domains

I see that that AboutUsBot can now automatically add domains in the format *.ny.us (nd likewise for the other state abbreviations), although domains such as Mesd.k12.or.us cannot be added automatically. Could you please add edu.pk , gc.ca, mb.ca, nu.ca and nf.ca to the list of "almost-top-level" domains, so that domains such as mul.edu.pk can be added automatically? Can you help me

Hi There!

I am a business owner and I have just discovered your site which is wonderful. I was wondering if you can head me in the right direction. I am wanting to build an online shopping cart. I have downloaded a couple to find they are either too basic or very complicated as I have no web skills. Could you maybe recommend one if you know of any that you think would suit a person with limited skills in Web. I like the idea of buying software to select a template and edit myself although the template purchase is also suited to my needs as I want to have a shopping cart asap. I am a big supporter of open source software rather than big commercial company brands.

I would really appreciate your help.

TempTalkPageBot

Hey there!

I have a question for you. One of my two newest bots - TempTalkPageBot - deletes TempTalkPages that haven't been edited for 2 months or more (unless the {{nowikibot}} template is in the page). In order to be able to delete pages, it was given peerrev status. However, since peerrev people cannot now delete pages, the bot is now deprived of its function. Is there anything that could be done just to give the bot delete permissions - I'm not asking for sysop rights.

Hi Brandon,

It was great to meet you this past wiki wednesday. I understand it's one of your brainchildren, so congratulations on an excellent event. I'd love to talk to you more about democracyLab sometime soon. I've had a lot of interesting conversations about it this week, and I think a good idea popped into my head last night.

All the software developers I've met with recently have recommended getting something functional up now, and then problem solving from there. This means shrinking the size of the problem initially, which for this project should make it a lot more manageable.

I've helped the Bus Project with some of the planning for their Rebooting Democracy conference taking place January 11-13. They're having a "Policy Battle Royale", where different people will submit policy proposals, and finalists win volunteer days, media coverage, maybe a meeting with the Governor, etc. The idea that popped into my head last night was rapidly energizing enough developers to build a version of democracyLab that could be used to judge the policy contest, and having computer stations around the conference space where people could vote. I think it would increase interest in the contest, add to the conference's cutting edge feel, and be a great proof of concept for democracyLab.

I haven't run this by anyone at the Bus Project yet, but I imagine that if they thought it was feasible they'd be into it. I thought I'd bounce it off of you for a sanity check. What do you think?

Thanks again for the hospitality on wednesday-

Mark

Hi Brandon,

You tried to contact me around the time omidyar.net was closing shop.

I have been coping with some things (family member diagnosed with cancer) and I failed to respond then. I am still very much interested creating a place for Solseed to exist, thrive, and grow new members.

I signed up on the AboutUs Solseed page, although it does not seem to have been very active.

Back at you

Hey Brandon!

Was interested to read about GrassCommons.org after seeing it on your page. A friend recently directed me to wiserearth, a directory linking people in "helping" endeavors. Really I think we are moving towards a number of new approaches to sustainability.

I have been inviting some friends to come take a look at the SolSeedMovement.

Am in the process of some more overt recruitment. Hmm. "Recruitment" sounds a bit militaristic.

Shall we say invitations?

First off, Happy Easter!

Mark

Hi

Hey Brandon. It's been a long time. How have you been doing? BTW, why did Nathan leave the project? Nearly Headless Nick 09:35, 17 December 2007 (PST)

new address editors

Hey Brandon, whenever you're back, we could use some more address editors lists. Thanks! peace, TedErnst (talk) 13:48, 26 December 2007 (PST)

Establishing contact

Perhaps it could be more so? --Kevin | talk 18:20, 11 January 2008 (PST)

Second contact

Hi Brandon, hope I'm doing this correctly. I have replied to you on the Solseed talk page.

MediaWiki API

First off, Happy Easter!
Second, the MediaWiki API seems to have dissappeared when CompostUs arrived.
Now all my bots won't work. Was this intentional? Or maybe it just moved to another place instead of api.php? Or has it been completely redesigned? I await your response.

Portrait Bug

Brandon, I tried to upload a portrait and crop it but the crop feature couldn't get rid of Tessa. I feel a little bad having Tessa in public w/out Emily's permission, and I'd like that portrait removed. I tried to upload a new one, but got an error message. Would you just remove all portraits associated with Shelley Schoepflin Sanders for now? Thanks, --ShelleySchoepflinSanders 12:26, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

Thanks!

Tnx! --ShelleySchoepflinSanders 17:50, 30 June 2008 (PDT)
