- I recently joined AboutUs because I needed an outlet to express my ideas. And here at AboutUs, some of the values that are upheld rather religiously are EncourageFreeSpeech, CommonGroundForAll, UserDriven, Workonwhatwelove, Transparency and Inclusiveness. These, I believe, are what make AboutUs a truly unique internet experience because not only is information shared as a truly public commodity, additionally, there are no bonunds on the extent to which you can innovate, edit, write, express, explore or just blabber your ideas or views.
- Apart from the fact that the website has been designed to promote "you" as an individual, member of an organization or citizen, it has several other features such as Portals that allow you to enhance your own social networks with others or among your group of friends/peers.
- One of the portals that has intrigued me the most is Consensus Polls. Designed as a utility to allow organizations or individuals to express their views/ideas on certain issues or policies, Consensus Polls works by encouraging participants to continually upgrade an existing policy until one unanimous decision is made (i.e. at least 90% of the participants agree on the policy terms). This, I feel, is a revolutionary tool for decision-making for it takes the democratic process to a new level; not only is the user given the right to agree/disagree with a policy, he/she is encouraged to redefine the policy. Inspired by the utility, I designed the portal The Social Policy Experiment (under construction) as an experiment to determine whether individuals were capable of making political decisions on their own or not.
