User talk:JMarkAfghans

Hey Julie,

Looks like you've done a great job on the WikiPage so far. I wonder if I could convince you to not use your user page as a copy of your DomainWikiPage and instead use it more as a personal page? Sort of an About the Artist type of page. We encourage people to upload a photo of themselves and add whatever contact information they're comfortable with.

We'll try to address the linking issue and "Make an offer to buy this domain" issue as soon as we can.

I hope to hear from you again,

- Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

wow Jules, I cannot believe the amount of work you put into that page in such a short time. You did an absolutely amazing job. I hope you quickly find more pages whose incorrectness bug you so you'll start working on those as well! ;) - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

edit Featured Nomination for JMarkAfghans.com

Hi Jules, I just left a note on the FeatureDiscussion for JMarkAfghans.com about when to feature this. If we wait a couple of weeks until after our upgrade I think we'll have the ability for users to turn on and off the registrar badge (which I believe was something you work working with Scott on). The developers are still working out the details, but I'm hopeful this'll be implemented with the upgrade. Otherwise, I'm happy to feature this something this week, depending on what you'd prefer. -- TakKendrick | User Talk:TakKendrick

edit DMOZ.org question

Hi Jules, I wanted to answer your question from yesterday:

I have run into a situation, working on dmoz.org about which I could use some advice. Coolbunny has a site that s/he added to dmoz.org#External_Links, however the site is not supported by or affiliated with dmoz.org, therefore I removed it. I was thinking that I could create a section for such sites, however I don't know that I should and, if I should, what to call it so that non-affiliated, but loosely related sites would know to list them there. (Well, that was an ugly sentence.)
My initial reaction was to politely ask Coolbunny to create a page for his/her site and list dmoz.org as a Related Domain. However, I don't know that this is proper, either.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Jules

I think you instinct are good here. I'd say leave User:Coolbunny a note and see what s/he has to say. Obviously, Coolbunny thinks it's of related interest, so part of me feels like it might be relevant, but it'd be nice if the Resource-Zone.com WikiPage had more information to help us gauge this. As far as the link goes currently, I'd leave that up to you, either a) take it down, leaving a note in the summary and contacting User:Coolbunny or b) leave it for now, but contact the user. If you do take it down and s/he puts it back up, then I'd say to leave it until the situation can be resolved. I went ahead and added the link to the Resource-Zone.com page on AboutUs to the related domains because I think it probably belongs there either way.

I also just wanted to say that the DMOZ.org page is looking fabulous. When you've got it in a good place, be sure to nominated it as a feature.

I hope this helps, let me know if you need any more help, but I'm hoping you and User:Coolbunny can SelfOrganize to find a good solution to the problem. -- TakKendrick | Talk 15:40, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

edit Re: Problem with User

Hi Jules,

Just looking over your note and his to you. I have a few thoughts, but wasn't sure if a "public" AboutUs talk page was a good forum for this or if email made sense. Why don't you let me know what works best (heck, we can even use Skype or phones if you want a more personal chat). You can always email me at [ ].

Tak

Jules, I seem to have lost the email you sent with your phone number. I feel like I owe you a call, but think I deleted the email on accident (and, of course, was using the email as a reminder that I wanted to call you). I didn't have any real worries about how you handled the situation with the user, and it's probably a moot point to worry much more about it, but didn't want you to think I'd completely forgotten you or blown you off or whatever. -- Tak
BTW: Great work on your user page. Do you mind if we put a screenshot of it up on our AboutUs.org page with the other "Active Community Members]]?

Hi Julie, would like to invite you to participate in some conference calls we are having. I think it would be great if you would like to participate, I know you have lots of experience online and at DMOZ that I think would be great. Best, MarkDilley

edit NewSkin Beta Preview

Hello Julie!

We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.

Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.

We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.

Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!

Warm Regards,
the DevelopmentTeam

edit Fabulous work!

Very nice looking page you have! Tables are a pain, but you figured them out. Something to look at in the future are what I call Template Tables - you can see them at work on our OnTheWeb page. Best, MarkDilley
