(You can see an example of this by clicking my name below.) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like some assistance in accomplishing your goals on AboutUs and if you want some help or new ideas I've found the help page to be a nice resource. edit Thank you

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am still struggling to grasp the entirety of the philosophy and purpose of AboutUs, so I hope you will give me a kick in the pants if you see I'm somehow not getting it.  :-)

Best regards,
Wally

edit Oh Snap

Hey Wally, I just noticed that you messaged me back here on your talk page when I saw you in the "currently on-line" section on the homepage. Next time if you message someone it's best to put it in their own talk page because it will alert them (you can link to my talk page by clicking "message" by my name), but no worries. Essentially, AboutUs.org is a wiki as I'm sure you know and the very basic idea is to be a catalog of the Internet in a sense. But the big picture is to create a viable resource and community for its users, as that is the WikiWay. The concept of AboutUs is also outlined somewhat in the "Welcome" link on the homepage, which you can view here. Let me know if you have any questions and if you like you can join the AboutUs WebIRC here and talk to most of the staff who are in the office at any given time and some community members.

edit There you go

I think that's what you wanted. I just copy and pasted the part in my talk page above my picture (which I originally copy and pasted from another staff member's talk page) and changed the part that said KristinaWeis to Justwally. I think it's some sort of HTML-ish thingamabob, but really I have no idea.

edit Savagechump.png

Hi there, you didn't need to make an image of an e-mail address (Savagechump.png). That is something we can do automatically here.

For example, by entering <email><email>b490a5811190aa9895f60265a3f7b0eb</email></email>, it becomes .

Hope this helps you. — Nathan (talk) / 23:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)</nowiki>

edit Thanks for the thanks!

Hi Wally,

Look forward to working with you on stuff you care about!

And, I am not sure about what you think you messed up :-) (maybe check the history tab to look at all versions of a page?) Come check me out at LiveChat - I am there often, or use the magic of the wiki! ;-P Best, MarkDilley

edit Help with Big Decision ... AboutUsLogo!

Hello Wally, there is a movement afoot to create a new version of the AboutUsLogo. I'd love it if you would come to AboutUsLogo and participate in creating this important decision about the look/feel for our site, after all ItsYourWiki! Warm Regards, Brandon CS Sanders

edit WikiAnatomy tours

Hey Wally, I just wanted to pop in and say hello to show you something new that I'm excited about and could be useful/interesting to you. It's the brand new tours that are in the works at WikiAnatomy if you want to check it out. Let me know if I can help with anything. KristinaWeis | **talk** 13:21, 8 June 2007 (PDT)

I know exactly how you feel. I don't have a life until the 12th, in fact I should be doing homework right now. I have thusfar escaped statistics, but my class of death is GIS (ESRI ArcGIS software for mapping and geography analysis). Oh sweet, I was about to ask where you went to school and then I checked your PersonalPage - University of Washington, ay? I'm a Washingtonian myself and have friends up there. I'm down in Portland, which is kind of like Seattle's step-brother or something. I'm a Geography major/Sustainable Urban Design minor so it looks like we have a bit in common there.
KristinaWeis | **talk** 14:03, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
Haha, thanks for the sympathy. I feel the same about gutting it out, I'm more of a learn about/write about person than making something. Unless, it's a WikiPage of course.

edit Nowiki

Just a friendly note: We don't use CamelCase here, so the nowiki tag (<nowiki>) is only used on WikiCode :-) Quotes don't do anything, but two or three apostrophes will (italics and bold, respectively) Nathan (talk) / 20:36, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

MediaWiki-based wikis are a little different. They use "freelinks" - enclosing the page you want to link to in [[ ]] (you can also change the title of the link using [[Link|Link Title]], unless it's external, then it's [ ]). InternalLinkingGuide would help a little in explaining. Best, Nathan (talk) / 20:52, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I hope someday to work with CamelCase and Free links in one wiki. I only started to use MediaWiki since last January when WikiIndex.org kicked off. Clicking my heels now! MarkDilley

edit AboutUsLogo

Hey Wally, thanks again for the comments on the AboutUsLogo page. Your critique has been helpful in some newer revisions and changes I'm working through. You mention an "inability to see AboutUs," and I wonder if that has to do simply with the choice of colors or the more with the purpose of communication. What are your expectations for AboutUs? How do you see the organization as it affects you? People in general? I apologize if these questions seem rather 'large,' but I've really appreciated your thoughts and think we all can benefit from your perspective. Thanks. -Vinh Nguyen

Hey Wally, thanks for the thoughts/notes on the logo and the affect of its presentation. I think you're right; perhaps a better way to present the image is as a part of the whole site. However, it does say something if the logo doesn't work on its own... I've also looked at Gill Sans Condensed (+ the rest of the family) as an option. The strength in that type for me is it's use as small headers, or around 16pt (on screen). Unfortunately, we've got a big upgrade to get through tonight, so I'll be postponing any changes or updates to the poll for a day or two. But, thanks again for your help. Hope you had a good fishing trip! I'm rather jealous, it's been years since I last went. A friend was supposed to teach me fly fishing last summer... maybe this time around? What'd you fish for? Where? - Vinh Nguyen Comment_green.gif

Great to see your name on the projects page for the logo. I look forward to working with you! TedErnst

Hi Wally. We're attempting to define (and do) next steps here: Projects:AboutUsLogo. See you there! TedErnst

edit Storyteller's Bazaar

Hello Wally,

Have you paid a visit to TheStorytellersBazaar yet? If not, please do. It's jam packed with all sorts of writing activities. Read some of the contributions and hopefully they will inspire you to contribute too. The more you contribute the better the site will become. Come and have a look and enjoy. Tanwir Shah

edit FixName

Wally, yes, feel free to move any pages that are mis-capitalized. And if there's a larger issue, please feel free to say more about that as well. peace, TedErnst

edit WhoWeAre

Hi Wally,

I think we got off on the wrong foot but I think (I hope) fences have been mended. I notice you have struck out the more difficult parts of our difficult conversation. Would it be okay if I deleted the areas you have crossed out or should we keep it as it is.

I am really enjoying reading peoples ideas on AboutUs and although I respect your decision to see things through other people's eyes, I would really love to read your ideas too and see something through your eyes.

Peace Tanwir Shah

edit Just a helpful suggestion

You can sign every post with four tildes "~~~~" to automatically insert your username and the date, so that you don't have to manually type that. Just thought I'd let you know that you do have that option :) Nathan (talk) / 19:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Wally, to add to the confusion! I rarely (maybe never) add the date time stamp. For me wiki is a living document and it is WikiNow. Dates don't add value for me personally. Just wanted to let you know about that option also! :-) ~~ MarkDilley
I appreciate your point of view! :-) ~~ MarkDilley
sounds good :-) MarkDilley

edit Message Link

Hi Wally, Thanks for the message link at the top of my talk page. It looks great. And I'm glad we're friends. :) Tanwir Shah

edit re: AboutUsTraditions

Great idea! If you'd like to create that page, I then recommend you announce it on DailyBuzz. peace, TedErnst

edit AboutUsLogo

Hi Justwally, The AboutUsLogo ConsensusPoll has surpassed all it's GoThresholds and we will be turning on the DoneTimer as soon as all participants have been notified. This means that all participants now have the opportunity to check AboutUsLogo one more time, to make sure we haven't overlooked something. Please feel free to change the document and/or change your status, if need be. Best, Obed Suhail

edit phone or skype?

I'm not surprised you're confused. I'm confused, too. I'd love to talk things over with you when you have a chance. TedErnst

By the way, I often hang out in the IRC channel: LiveChat TedErnst

Great! TedErnst

Hi Wally. Sorry about yesterday. I'm getting ready to leave town tonight (for Portland, actually) and couldn't manage to call you. I also forgot my cell phone today. If you have any time today, after about 9am Seattle time, and wanted to phone me, I'm at 312 814 5571, my work number. If not today, it'll have to be next week. peace, TedErnst

edit Re: Consensus, Patience, Confusion, and Wallyness

Hi Wally, Thank you for your kind comments but I'm not sure I deserve them. All I did was speak out against something I felt was wrong. But I think you are right about being patient. What I really need to do now it be a little more patient and see how things develop. I really do not understand consensus polls. I've really tried and had long discussions about them with colleagues in Lahore but I'm still not completely sure about them. I probably need to study them more.

Thanks again for your message Tanwir Shah

edit Projects:WhoWeAre

Hi Wally, This is the message I'm sending to all people listed on Projects:WhoWeAre (TedErnst, Brandon CS Sanders, Obed Suhail, Asad Butt, MartinPfahler, Wally Wilson User:fridemar).

WhoWeAre stage 1 consensus poll went live just a few minutes ago.
If you have little time (one minute?), I invite you to take a look at your status page in the WhoWeAre stage 1 consensus poll and set an appropriate status message.
If you have more time, I invite you to look more closely at WhoWeAre and then at Projects:WhoWeAre to see what needs to be done, or add to the list of what needs to be done.
Thanks much! TedErnst

edit WhoWeAre facilitation

Hi Wally,

Thanks for indicating that you'd like to help with ConsensusPollFacilitation for WhoWeAre. The Stage 1 consensus poll has officially begun, and this note is to invite you to visit your status page and update the comment and/or the status. We also have Projects:WhoWeAre#Engaging facilitators as a place to keep track of what facilitators are doing. Feel free to jump right in with tasks on the list there and/or ask questions and/or add to the list. Thanks much!

edit NewSkin Beta Preview

Hello Wally!

We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.

Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.

We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.

Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!

Warm Regards,
the DevelopmentTeam
